SHARP INTRODUCES ULTRA HIGH-RESOLUTION DISPLAYS WITH THE INDUSTRY’S THINNEST¹ DESIGN
New Series includes two 32” class models – one of which provides 10-point multi-touch functionality
01/07/2013
Las Vegas, NV, January 7, 2013 -- This week at CES in Las Vegas, Sharp Imaging and Information Company of America, a division of Sharp Electronics Corporation, is presenting its new 32" class professional LCD monitor series, which features Sharp’s ground-breaking IGZO™ technology and touts 3840 x 2160 pixel resolution.

According to industry research, demand for Ultra High-Definition displays, commonly referred to as "4K2K", is forecast to grow across numerous industries and verticals, including graphics and video editing and production, financial-services operations that require intensive use of graphs and small text, and computer aided design (CAD) professions that create detailed digital drawings or blueprints. The IGZO professional display series from Sharp delivers ultra high resolution (3,840 × 2,160 pixels), which is four times the pixel resolution of full 1080p high definition.

"As we introduce Sharp’s proprietary IGZO technology into the first series of professional display products, we continue to drive innovation with game-changing functionality," said Doug Albregts, president, Sharp Imaging and Information Company of America. "We are not only excited about the initial application of this new technology, but foresee broad usage throughout complementary industries where high definition viewing is demanded."

Featuring much smaller thin-film transistors (TFTs) as compared to conventional displays, IGZO technology also significantly increases the amount of light transmitted per pixel. As a result, these advanced displays portray vibrant and crisp content with the ability to zoom in to examine the detail of a picture or text, or pan out to view content from a wider angle. This can help boost operational efficiency and reduce eyestrain by sparing users the need to scroll frequently.

Combining Sharp's IGZO technology with a brilliant white, edge lit LED backlight system, these state-of-the-art monitors measure only 35 millimeters at their thickest point (that’s less than an inch and a half), making them the industry’s thinnest design in their class.(1)

Additionally, the series is outfitted with two HDMI® ports and one DisplayPort interface which are both capable of using a single connector cable in order to transmit an ultra high resolution signal, helping to simplify cable management and reduce desktop clutter. Backed by Sharp’s 3-year limited warranty, both models support landscape and portrait orientation and are designed for 24/7 operation.

The series consists of two 32” class models that are differentiated by touch capability. One of the two models features 10-point multi-touch capability utilizing advanced projected capacitive technology. Its intuitive design is easy to use with either your fingers or the included stylus that enables precision, accuracy and smooth handwriting. The non-touch model will be available in February 2013 and the 10-point multi-touch model will be available shortly thereafter through Sharp’s network of Pro AV dealers, distributors and integrators.

¹As of December 21, 2012 for 30-inch or larger 4K2K (3,840 × 2,160 pixels) monitors (based on Sharp research).

BRACE YOURSELF: SHARP® UNVEILS BIGGER, MORE BEAUTIFUL AQUOS® LED TV LINEUP AT CES 2013
Large Screen LED TV Leader Showcases World’s Largest LED TV, More Models with Quattron™ Technology, More Choices in 60", 70" and 80" (diagonal) Screen Size Classes and Striking Slim Designs
01/07/2013
Las Vegas, January 7, 2013 –Get ready for an all out visual thrill ride. Sharp today unveiled nearly twenty 60" plus class TV models as part of its new line of AQUOS LED TVs, with more models that feature Quattron technology, more choices in the fast growing 60", 70" and 80" screen classes, striking new slim designs and the world’s largest LED TV, the 90" AQUOS.

“It’s simple – consumers want big screens with excellent picture quality, something that Sharp is uniquely able to deliver,” said John Herrington, President of Sharp Electronics Marketing Company of America, a division of Sharp Electronics Corporation. “We’re gearing up to extend our leadership in the large screen LED TV market with our finest AQUOS lineup ever, including more choices in large screen LED TVs, more Quattron models and iconic designs.”

Picture Quality
For the first time, more than half of the AQUOS 2013 large screen LED TV lineup will feature Sharp’s exclusive Quattron technology in the 7- and 8-Series. Quattron color technology adds a yellow pixel to the standard red-green-blue sub-pixel structure, delivering more than a billion colors. This offers greater detail, smoother lines, and brighter yellows, deeper blues and richer golds. Screen brightness is also enhanced without compromising color accuracy.

In the new AQUOS 8-Series, Sharp takes brightness to an entirely new level with the introduction of Super Bright which combines an intelligent contrast engine with a 50 percent higher brightness panel to create Sharp’s brightest picture with more contrast. The intelligent contrast engine constantly analyzes the signal and enhances the brightness of the bright objects on the screen while maintaining the black levels on the rest of the screen. The result is Sharp’s most brilliant, most contrasted picture ever.

The World’s Largest LED TV
Introduced in June of 2012, and standing majestically at nearly 4 feet tall and spanning 6 feet and 7 inches wide, the 90" (diagonal) AQUOS is the world’s largest LED TV and continues as part of the 2013 AQUOS lineup. Its picture quality is as stunning as its size, with crisp and clear content at the highest HD resolution of 1080p. Despite its size, the TV is relatively thin and light. Weighing only 141 pounds and less than 5 inches deep, the unit is easy to mount on a wall. And with LED technology, it is so energy efficient, it costs only $28 per year to operate.

Smart TV
All three large screen series (6-, 7-, 8-Series) in the 2013 AQUOS lineup will be smart, with a dual-core processor, Web browser and built-in Wi-Fi. Sharp’s SmartCentral platform provides an easy way for consumers to access virtually unlimited Web based content.

In the 2013 AQUOS lineup, SmartCentral will include an expanded selection of apps, Flash and HTML5 supported Web browsing and Android and iOS remote control operation. It will also feature Sharp Beam, a free app that enables users to send content from an iOS and Android smartphone or tablet to the big screen with a flick. A new SmartCentral feature gives consumers the ability to split screens for simultaneous TV viewing and Web browsing. Finally, Netflix subscribers will be able to search for content on their smartphone or tablet and then select to watch it on their AQUOS TV with Netflix “Second Screen” capability.

Striking Design
Sharp also brings a new innovative slim design to the 2013 AQUOS line of LED TVs. The screen bezel is astonishingly slim, so users can fit more TV in less space. The sides of the TV amazingly appear to fall away. And the whole display is sleek and thin, so customers can place or mount it practically anywhere.

High quality brushed aluminum frames adorn the 7- and 8-Series; the latter featuring distinctive diamond cut edges and a stunning silver finish. They also include new rounded-edge stands – the new 8-Series also includes a new silver plated O-shaped stand, giving the appearance of a floating TV.

Since the beautiful new designs are the perfect frames to turn a blank screen into a work of art, the new Wallpaper Mode will allow pre-installed artwork images or home photos from a USB drive on the AQUOS LED screen at a reduced light level that mirrors museum conditions, so the screen blends beautifully into a room’s décor with extremely low power consumption.

3D
Eleven of Sharp’s large screen AQUOS models feature full HD 1080p active 3D technology, delivering twice the resolution of passive 3D. New for 2013 is the use of Bluetooth 3D glasses that are not subject to interference.

Sound
6-Series models feature powerful 20W audio for high fidelity with clear voice, producing clean and crisp audio. The 7- and 8-Series models add Yamaha DSP technology and a 15W subwoofer, for a total of 35W, adding big, deep sound for richer audio.

Energy Efficiency
Most AQUOS LED TVs are ENERGY STAR® 6.0 qualified. In addition, the Optical Picture (OPC) feature helps save power by using a sensor on the front of the TV to detect ambient room light, and automatically adjusts TV brightness for the best picture.

AQUOS Advantage LiveSM
AQUOS connected TV owners have access to AQUOS Advantage Live, Sharp’s unique, complimentary customer support program. AQUOS Advantage Live allows trained advisors to remotely connect via the Internet to AQUOS TVs to assist with setup, troubleshooting and picture optimization. And with Live answer, Sharp’s experts are available to customers through a dedicated line, 1-87-SEE-AQUOS, and can provide instantaneous, remote access to representatives.

SHARP® PROVIDES A GLIMPSE OF THE FUTURE AT CES 2013
Breakthrough Display Technologies that Unlock New Possibilities and Incredible Large Screen Televisions that Change the Viewing Experience Highlight Sharp’s CES Booth
01/07/2013
Las Vegas, January 7, 2013 – Brace yourself for a look into the future … today. This year, Sharp comes to CES with breakthrough technologies and exciting products that show the future is not that far off – Sharp is making amazing things happen now.

"Whether in your home or in your hand, display technology is everywhere," said Toshi Osawa, CEO and Chairman of Sharp Electronics Corporation. "From game changing IGZO, to stunning Ultra HD products, and large screen televisions, the introductions we are making at CES 2013 will advance people's lives at home, work and everywhere in between."

For the first time in the United States, the company is showcasing the amazing possibilities of IGZO (Indium Gallium Zinc Oxide) and introducing the first new products that use it. Today and tomorrow, IGZO will engender a whole generation of display products that produce high resolution images, are dramatically more energy efficient and are ultra-responsive to touch.

Sharp will take the lead in Ultra HD – the next generation of high-definition 4K display technology for the home – showcasing two lines of large screen Ultra HD TVs that will be introduced this year.

At CES, Sharp is also primed to continue its leadership in large screen LED TVs by introducing its 2013 AQUOS® LED TV lineup, featuring the largest commercially available LED TV in the world, more large screen models featuring Quattron™ technology and striking new designs.

Details of the new products and technologies showcased at CES include:

IGZO Sharp is the first to successfully mass produce IGZO, an innovative compound that replaces the industry standard amorphous silicon material used for the active layer in thin-film transistors (TFTs).

IGZO’s advantages are:
Super high resolution and clarity: IGZO's transistors are much smaller than traditional LCDs thanks to significantly higher electron mobility. Therefore, more data can be shown in a single display, creating a stunningly detailed image – up to four times that of conventional full-HD or 1080p LCDs.
Ultra low power consumption: IGZO can maintain the onscreen data for a certain period of time without refreshing the data, even when the current is off. This helps cut back the power consumption to achieve longer battery life for mobile displays.
High performance touch response: Compared to conventional LCDs, IGZO displays have drastically minimized the noise caused during touch input. This allows for quick, easy, more natural-feeling writing and smooth lines.
While the possibilities for this technology are far reaching, Sharp is already implementing IGZO technology in its displays, tablet PCs, monitors and smartphones available today.
Ultra HD Intuitive IGZO Business Display At CES, Sharp is revealing its state of the art 32" (31.5" diagonal) class professional LCD monitors, the PN-K321 and a touchscreen monitor prototype, which feature IGZO technology with ultra-high-definition 4K × 2K resolution (3,840 × 2,160 pixels), four times the pixel resolution of full high definition. These models also boast the industry's thinnest design at just 35mm. The touchscreen monitor prototype is capable of 10-point multi-touch option, allowing users to perform multiple gestures at once simply by touching the screen, which is especially useful for portraying and interfacing with images, graphics, complex visual elements or architectural designs. The PN-K321 is planned to launch in February.

Ultra HD Sharp is taking the lead in the development of the next generation of screen resolution: Ultra HD. Previously known as 4K, this significant leap in viewing is four times the pixel resolution of 1080p. At CES, Sharp is demonstrating two large screen Ultra HD televisions:

ICC Purios: Developed jointly with I-cubed Research Center Inc., ICC Purios combines Ultra HD resolution and the ICC (integrated cognitive creation) image processor, which reproduces the “cognitive” process by which the human brain interprets light stimuli. Employing this unique process provides a similar sense of depth, texture and perspective to what people experience when looking directly at an object for a lifelike viewing experience where everything is in sharper focus. The picture is so stunningly real, ICC Purios is the world's first display to pass the 400 tests necessary to receive THX® 4K Display certification, confirming that the display not only meets industry 4K performance guidelines, but that it maintains content accuracy true to the original HD image. This model will come to market summer 2013.

AQUOS Ultra HD: At CES, Sharp is showcasing a prototype of the AQUOS Ultra HD TV. In addition to boasting Ultra HD resolution, this prototype features a new screen technology, introduced as Moth Eye that virtually eliminates glare while preserving color vibrancy.

2013 AQUOS Lineup Brace yourself for an all-out visual thrill ride. Sharp is showcasing its full line of 2013 AQUOS LED TVs, with striking new designs and large screen sizes such as 60" (diagonal), 70" (69 ½ " diagonal), 80" (diagonal) and 90" (diagonal), the world's largest commercially available LED TV. This year, Sharp, the leader in large screen LED TVs, will introduce 21 models of 60" size or larger, the most choices in the industry.

The 2013 AQUOS line features two series with Quattron technology. All large screen AQUOS LED TVs are smart TVs with dual-core processors for quick and easy smart connection, control and content choices. The flagship 8-Series features Super Bright, an intelligent contrast engine and a brighter panel to create a brighter picture and extraordinary contrast.

Big, Bold Audio Sharp is demonstrating two exciting audio products at CES: the HT-SB60, the only soundbar system on the market designed from the ground up to be used exclusively for 60" and larger TVs. The system provides clear and powerful sound via a 2.1 channel arrangement with 310 total watts of power and a wireless subwoofer. Its flexible design offers options for horizontal and wall mounted use. Exposed drivers and a rich black-brushed aluminum finish offer a striking visual element.

The second, the stylish GX-M10 Portable Audio System has built-in CD and iPhone, iPod and iPad docking stations, as well as microphone and guitar inputs with input level control. Operating on AC/DC or battery outputting 100 watts of power and sporting LED accent lighting on its dual subwoofers, the GX-M10 consistently delivers high power audio no matter where it is placed.

The Next Generation of Quattron Sharp is also demonstrating the next generation of Quattron technology at CES 2013. Using a specialized sub-pixel signal processing for Sharp's red-green-blue-yellow Quattron pixel panel, the next genesis of Quattron will allow the control and use of these colors individually, enabling the reproduction of double resolution in one singular pixel. As a result of this breakthrough feature, the next generation of Quattron can increase the effective resolution of a 1080p panel to Ultra HD-like for video and still image content as well as Web based text. The next generation of Quattron technology also includes specialized signal processing for scaling up from 1080p to 4K images. Sharp expects to introduce products with the next generation of Quattron technology in 2014.

8K The company is showing a glimpse of the high definition future with a demonstration of 8K resolution on an 85" (diagonal) screen size class TV. Sharp was the first brand to showcase this groundbreaking technology at CES 2012. 8K is an astounding 7680 x 4320 resolution, the equivalent of 16 times the pixel resolution of HDTV and presents an unprecedented level of incredibly detailed, high-quality images.

This allows for stunning glasses-free 3D without any viewing angles, distortion or other restrictions using the Ultra-D 2160p 4K display. Consumers can use any type of source content and convert it into customized 3D without glasses – Cable and Satellite TV Channels, Blu-ray®, Xbox®, iTunes®, Apple TV®, Google TV®, YouTube®, Netflix® and other feeds.

Capitalizing on breakthroughs made while developing the 4K technology, Stream TV Networks has also made significant advancements in the optical system and SeeCube for its 1080p solution and will be unveiling the final production model with improved resolution and conversion technology, further enhancing the "ultra dimensional" viewing experience.

The Ultra-D 3D-without-glasses display technology was selected as an Innovations 2013 Design and Engineering Awards Honoree by The Consumer Electronics Association in the Video Displays product category and will also be on display at SHOWSTOPPERS @ CES, Table A22, 6-10 pm, January 8 in the Wynn Las Vegas Hotel LaFite Ballroom.

Experience the future of 3D now, not 3-5 years away. To schedule an Ultra-D demo, contact press@ultra-d.com. Additional information, supporting images and interviews available with CEO Rajan and other Stream TV executives by request.
